O'Keeffe - Paintings From the Faraway Nearby
It's terrible that it's taken this long to report on a wonderful show that performed in January of 2007, but Marki Shalloe should be commended. She is a definite artist that displays in her writings and her characters the history, the love, the laughter and the importance of women in the world. The Atlanta-American-World-Famous actress, Josie Burgin Lawson, did a superb job bringing the wonderful O'Keeffe to life as only a lively story-teller can. Bravo to Theatre Decatur for taking on this project and entertaining the audiences with this wonderful piece. May it grace the stages of Atlanta again!

Always, Patsy Cline
What an amazing show! What an excellent concert! For anyone not knowing who Ms. Cline was, waht she was about, what her demeanor was, or anything, this show is an education in love, laughter, friendship and fun! Joe Spots did an excellent job with this show as did Ted Swindley, the original director. Cindy Summers dows a wonderful likeness to the singer and LGwen Hughes is dazzlingly fabulous as the narrator! This show is at 14th Street Playhouse until the end of April and worth ever bit of clapping, stomping and cheering that will definitely emerge from the 2nd space at this theater!

Respect
Ok, after the whirlwind of the most wonderful woman-oriented show in Atlanta, the follow-up was highly anticipated with new music, new moves, but the same amount of fun.
Well, it was fun. And there were smiles. But it doesn't measure up to "Menopause." Really, how do you follow a smash hit like that?
45-50 minutes for Act I, a 15 minute intermission and 40 minutes for Act II. It was wonderful to see Miss Denitra Isler and Mrs. Mary Kathryn Kaye from "Menopause" on the stage again, but Denitra's roles were...well...left the audience wanting more. And definitely for Mary Kathryn the audience wanted to hear more of her singing and less of the narrative.
Go Dale Grogan and the band for their music! Dale's fingers were flying like crazy over that keyboard and he was just clappin' along and having a blast up in the pit above the stage!
The show was lacking the individual intimacy of the lives of the 4 characters. The program lists names of the characters, whereas the show didn't even mention them as individuals. It was definitely a revue, a celebration, but not really a "story."
Still, the music does bring the ladies to their feet!
